What is NAD? NAD, which stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is a molecule found in every cell of your body. It's crucial for various cellular processes and plays a vital role in maintaining your overall health. Here's a breakdown of its importance:
- Essential Coenzyme: NAD acts as a coenzyme, meaning it partners with enzymes to help them carry out specific chemical reactions within your cells. These reactions are fundamental for many bodily functions.
Key Roles: Some of the key roles NAD plays include:
-
Energy Production: NAD is involved in the process by which your cells convert food into usable energy. It acts as an electron carrier, shuttling electrons in the electron transport chain, a vital step in energy generation.
-
Cellular Repair and Maintenance: NAD is essential for DNA repair mechanisms, helping to fix damage and maintain the integrity of your genetic material.
-
Cellular Signaling: NAD is involved in cellular communication pathways, helping cells send and receive signals that regulate various functions.
- Metabolism: NAD plays a role in regulating how your body processes nutrients and maintains metabolic balance.
Benefits of Optimal NAD Levels: Maintaining healthy NAD levels is associated with several potential benefits, including:
-
Improved Cellular Function: With adequate NAD, your cells can function more efficiently, leading to better overall health.
-
Enhanced Energy Levels: Proper NAD function ensures your cells can generate
sufficient energy, potentially boosting your energy levels. - Slower Aging: Research suggests NAD levels decline with age. Maintaining healthy NAD levels might be linked to promoting healthy aging.
Who can benefit from IV NAD? All people can benefit from increased NAD levels and NAD is a critical factor involved in energy production and multiple cellular processes that all of our bodies perform! There are special groups that NAD will make a larger difference to, as listed below:
- Those concerned about cellular decline/anti-aging: As we age, NAD levels naturally decline. NAD IV therapy is hypothesized to help maintain cellular health and function, potentially promoting healthy aging.
- Individuals experiencing cognitive decline: Some studies suggest NAD IV therapy might improve memory, focus, and mental clarity, potentially benefiting those with mild cognitive decline or age-related memory issues.
-
Those with Insulin Resistance: Some studies suggest that NAD levels might influence insulin sensitivity. Increased NAD levels could potentially improve the body's ability to utilize insulin for proper blood sugar regulation. NAD plays a role in regulating metabolism.
- Autoimmune Patients and Overactive Immune Systems: NAD plays a role in regulating the immune system. Studies suggest NAD may have immunomodulatory effects, potentially helping to dampen the overactive immune response characteristic of autoimmune diseases. NAD is involved in cellular repair mechanisms. Increased NAD levels might help protect healthy cells from damage caused by the immune system's attacks in autoimmune conditions.
How Long Are The Infusions and Why?: IV NAD drips take 1-8 hours to infuse depending on the dosage, the drips are so long due to a variety of reasons. One main reason is due to the molecule size, NAD is a large molecule so to absorb it well a slower drip is preferred. Additionally, dripping over a longer time can avoid side effects felt with NAD such as flushing, nausea, headaches, and cramping. Side effects are short term during the infusion and the day of, following the infusion patients often feel brain clarity, energy, and overall refreshed.
All of our infusions at RevIVe begin with a consultation with our Registered Nurse to evaluate your medical history and ensure you are a candidate, following that your vital signs will be measured and your infusion will begin! We recommend wearing comfortable clothing, and bringing snacks, a book or laptop, headphones, to keep yourself comfortable and entertained during your IV drip.
